Update: Reps for 2 Milly tell XXL that the rapper has hired Pierce Bainbridge's David L. Hecht to "pursue claims" against Fortnite and Epic Games for using the Milly Rock dance without his permission.

"I was never compensated by Epic Games for their use of the 'Milly Rock,'" 2 Milly said in a statement on Thurs, Nov. 29. "They never even asked for my permission. I am thrilled to have David Hecht and his team at Pierce Bainbridge representing me to help right this wrong."

Original Story:

The 2 Milly-popularized Milly Rock might belong to the internet as much as 2 Milly himself, but that doesn't mean the rapper is ready to let people profit off the dance without his consent. That's a point he made when he spoke to the folks at CBS News about the popular Fortnite video game franchise adding his dance to the game.

Addressing the matter of his viral dance being made a Fortnite emote—which is a dance animation Fortnite players can purchase within the game—2 Milly spoke on the way he found out that the dance he made go viral was added to the game.

"Everybody was like 'Yo your dance is in the game,'" he said. "They actually sell the particular move. It's for purchase. That's when I was really like 'Oh nah, this can't go on too long.'"

According to the outlet, 2 Milly is planning to pursue legal action against the Epic Games-owned game franchise, but there's no word on the status of that particular endeavor.

The Milly Rock is a dance that 2 Milly popularized when he uploaded a video of himself  performing the dance and accompanying song of the same name four years ago. It popped back into the national consciousness when Playboi Carti referenced the dance in the hook for his 2017 track "Magnolia." Obviously, the folks at Fortnite thought it'd be cool to incorporate it into their game, so it's clear the dance is still an influential one.

While 2 Milly is one of the latest artists to have their dance moves sampled, he's far from the first. Fortnite also incorporates dance moves from Psy's Gangnam and Snoop Dogg's "Drop it Like it's Hot."
