Kanye West and Kid Cudi’s “Freeee (Ghost Town, Pt. 2)” May Be Considered for a Grammy in Rock Category
Earlier today (Oct. 24), the site reported that Def Jam had submitted Kanye and Cudi's Kids See Ghosts cut, "Freeee (Ghost Town, Pt. 2)," for Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance for next year's star-studded music awards show.
While it's definitely interesting that Yeezy and Cudi could be given a trophy for a non-rap category, it should be noted that they aren't yet nominated for the trophy. The celebrity news outlet claims that the song has thus far gone through a "thorough screening" process. The results of this process will determine whether or not the song gets nominated. Basically, Kanye and Cudi are nominated to be nominated.
The track, which also features some vocals from Ty Dolla $ign, is one that definitely leans more into the rock side than hip-hop, so it really shouldn't be a huge stretch to see it nominated. Here's to hoping. It also wouldn't be the first time a rap group has been included in the rock category—Migos took home the trophy for Favorite Duo or Group in the Pop/Rock Category at the 2018 American Music Awards.
In somewhat related news, it we could be getting a new Kid Cudi LP next year. Addressing a fan on Twitter earlier this week, Cudi explained that he was back in the lab working on a new project.
"I just started the new album!" Cudi tweeted to a fan. "Taking my time w it tho but im thinkin next year sometime? Would that be cool? Huh? Tell me? Would that be ok?"
Obviously Cudi didn't serve up a release date, but new music from the Man on the Moon is always welcomed whenever it comes out.
