Today, Oct. 20, is Ohio rapper King Chip’s 32nd birthday!

The Cleveland-bred hip-hop artist formerly known as Chip Tha Ripper grew a local buzz in high school for his battle rap skills. He's had a knack for crafting tracks packed with cultural references, metaphoric, rap-a-long rhymes and his signature rugged delivery over woozy, trap sonics since the mid 2000s.

Chip—born Charles Worth—has worked with everyone from Travis Scott to Anderson .Paak on celebrated efforts 44108 and CleveLAfornia, respectively, throughout the years, but there’s no doubt his collaborative tracks with Kid Cudi helped him garner enough attention to become a respected hometown hero.

Chip and Cudder’s first record on wax to public knowledge was “T.G.I.F. (Thank God I’m Fresh)” on the latter’s debut mixtape, A Kid Named Cudi, in the summer of 2008. Their biggest joint song, “Just What I Am,” landed on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at No. 13 on the Hot Rap Songs chart in 2012.

The King has also been featured on The Game’s LP Jesus Piece, as well as Big Sean’s fourth mixtape, Detroit, lending rhymes on “Experimental” with Juicy J.

In September 2017, King Chip dropped Thornhill, a 10-track LP with a guest appearance from Trinidad James. These days he continues to drop one-off singles and has a new project on the way, but has also taking time to focus on new ventures, including filmmaking.

Happy Birthday, King Chip!
