Dave East has officially landed in some significant legal trouble. Yesterday (Oct. 2), the Harlem rapper turned himself in to the New York Police Department after he was accused of punching a 28-year-old man by the name of Joel Rosario near Hudson River Park's Pier 40. A short while later, he was officially charged with misdemeanor assault. In a statement given to XXL, an NYPD spokesperson confirmed the charge.

According to the NYPD, the victim suffered a laceration above his eye after East allegedly punched him at a yacht party back in July. East is set to appear in court for this matter on a later date.

While East himself hasn't spoken on this matter, his alleged victim did. Speaking with TMZ, Rosario said he hadn't had any contact with East before the rapper allegedly attacked him. Apparently, he's still unsure of why he was punched.

Speaking with TMZ, East's attorney Stacey Richman addressed the matter of East turning himself in to authorities.

"We appeared as requested at the police precinct and we look forward to reviewing the criminal court complaint and investigating. My client is an absolute gentleman," Richman said.

East's misdemeanor assault charge arrived just a few days before the release of Belovedwhich is a joint project he's concocted along with Styles P. Beloved, which will be East's first project since this past July's Karma 2, drops Friday.
