Family and friends of Canadian rapper Jon James McMurray are mourning after his latest stunt for an upcoming music video went horribly wrong.

On Saturday (Oct. 20), Jon James, 34, hopped on a plane with a sole pilot in British Columbia and his production team boarded another plane to film him rapping while standing on the wing of a plane while in the air. Upon stepping too close to the edge of the wing, the rapper caused the small Cessna plane to shift into a downward spiral.

"Jon held onto the wing until it was too late, and by the time he let go, he didn't have time to pull his chute," his management team said in a statement. "He impacted and died instantly."

Jules Knox, a reporter for Canada's Global Okanagan, provided further details. "Jon James McMurray's management team said he was performing an airplane stunt that included rapping while walking on the wing. As he got out further onto the wing, it caused the small Cessna to go into a downward spiral," she wrote on Twitter. "McMurray held onto the wing until it was too late, and by the time he let go, he didn't have time to pull his chute. He impacted and died instantly, his management team said in a statement."

This wasn't McMurray's only wild stunt. He had apparently trained and practiced the stunt for several months prior to the incident. His YouTube channel is full his antics like doing intense gymnastics in his recent music video for "I Am," and skydiving for fun.

Jon James' music career is eclectic to say the least. He discovered his passion for music while playing in a rock band when he was younger, but eventually switched over to hip-hop. He dropped the song "The Man" featuring Riff Raff two weeks before his death.

Riff Raff has yet to comment on Jon James' passing yet. Recently, Riff Raff has been in full album mode after he revealed his plans to drop his new album Vanilla Gorilla in a series of hilarious videos on Instagram.

Rest in peace, Jon James McMurray. Listen to his recent single with Jody Highroller below.
