With a career that spans more than 20 years, Lil Wayne will finally be honored for his role in rap with BET's I Am Hip Hop Award. Tunechi is set to receive the honor during the upcoming 2018 BET Hip Hop Awards in Miami next month, Billboard reports.

Throughout his career, Weezy has released four platinum-selling albums, including the multi-platinum Tha Carter III and Tha Carter IV. The rapper has also released seven gold-selling albums and a number of multi platinum-selling singles.

This year's BET Hip Hop Awards will take place on Oct. 6 at The Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater, while the televised event will air on Oct. 16. Leading all nominees this year is Drake with 11, while Cardi B isn't too far behind with 10 nods.

Both of the rappers are nominated for Best Hip Hop Video, MVP of the Year, and Album of the Year, while J. Cole's KOD, Migos' Culture II and The Carters' Everything Is Love are also up for the latter.

As for the Best New Artist category, 2018 XXL Freshman Blocboy JB will face off against Juice Wrld, Lil Baby, Rich The Kid and the late XXXTentacion for the award. Cardi B previously took home the honor in 2017.

In related news, Lil Wayne, who is prepping for the release of his long-awaited Tha Carter V album, recently became the sole owner of his Young Money record label. The move came after Weezy reached a settlement with Cash Money Records in June, letting him off the label and transitioning Young Money from a 51-49 joint partnership to sole ownership.
