The third season of Issa Rae's HBO series Insecure has been on point with its soundtrack per usual, but this week's episode "Backwards-like," which aired on Aug. 26, features a special selection: an unreleased song from Atlanta's J.I.D.

The track drops near the end of the episode, this season's third, as the show cuts away from a contentious studio session featuring the character Daniel. The Dreamville signee and 2018 XXL Freshman spits over plaintive jazz piano.

"On everything I gave everything and got nothin' back/Ain't lookin' for it, no pat on backs/That ain't how the fuck we got where we at," J.I.D raps.

It's the second time Inescure has featured the rapper's music following the selection of his single "Never" in season two's sixth episode, "Hella Blows." According to J.I.D's Instagram, the new track will be featured on his next project DiCaprio 2.

The song appears in "Backwards-like" alongside Buddy's "Trouble on Central," Maliibu Miitch's "Give Her Some Money" and show favorite City Girls' "One of Them Nights," among other heaters. The show's reliable soundtrack has helped Rae become a favorite among rappers, many of whom have name-dropped her on their own songs.

J.I.D's next full-length doesn't yet have a release date, but he does plan to tour with Mac Miller and Thundercat on the former's Swimming Tour set to launch in late October. Watch a clip of the rapper's unreleased song placement in Insecure's latest episode below.
