Jay-Z and Beyonce's twins, Sir and Rumi Carter, appear to be in good health now but in a her cover story for Vogue's September issue, the singer reveals her last pregnancy was a tough one.

According to Bey, she had been in bed rest for over a month when she gave birth to the twins. Weighing 218 pounds, the R&B star was swollen from toxemia and her health, as well as the health of Sir and Rumi was in danger. Beyonce was forced to undergo an emergency C-section and spent many weeks in NICU, where Jay-Z was by her side.

"My husband was a soldier and such a strong support system for me," Bey said. "I am proud to have been a witness to his strength and evolution as a man, a best friend, and a father. I was in survival mode and did not grasp it all until months later."

For the latest issue of Vogue, Beyonce was reportedly given an unprecedented amount of control and allowed to choose which photographer would shoot the cover photo. Bey settled on 23-year-old Tyler Mitchell, who becomes the first Black photographer to ever shoot a cover for the magazine.

In related news, Hov and Bey recently gave cameras a closer look at the twins while vacationing in Capri, Italy. In the photos, Beyonce can seen holding Rumi while her and Jay chill in a hot tub. Another photo shows Bey holding both of the kids on her lap.

Up next for the couple, they will continue their On the Run II Tour. The duo kicked off the North American leg of the trek on July 25 in Cleveland and will continue touring through Oct. 4.
