Fans have been outwardly fiending for late Pro Era rapper Capital Steez's posthumous album King Capital, but after being teased a year ago, it doesn't appear that a solid release date is in sight. Joey Bada$$ has offered an explanation for the LP's delay, saying he is not the person responsible for the holdup.

On Friday (July 13), Bad Mon fielded questions from fans on his Instagram story. It wasn't long before someone brought up the album delay. "When you gonna release King Capital? Much love," the fan queried.

"Been waiting to answer this for a minute. You guys have to understand, I am not the one who is holding back the release of King Capital and I never have been," Joey responded.

According to the Brooklyn rapper, the project is solely in the hands of Steez's estate, which his mother controls. "No moves can be made on that without his mother (the estate) having the proper things in order," he added. "They are still figuring it out with their lawyer. I'm sorry guys, if it were up to me it would be out a long time ago. I do not own Capital Steez's music and I never did. I hope this is enough for you guys to stop spamming everything I do with 'drop King Capital'... If I could I would. There's nothing I want more than the project to be out and for his name to rest in PEACE. Please understand that. You want info on King Capital find a way to contact his mother. She is the only one from his family that knows the current status of its release."

There have been reported rumblings of tension between Joey and Steez's family. They recently appeared to boycott the 2018 edition of Steez Day.

Joey Badass initially announced the release date for Steez's album during the 2017 Steez Day event last July as December 23. In December, he released an update on the project announcing it would be delayed because of "business legalities and sample clearances" issues.
