Jay Rock drops his third album Redemption next Friday, and in anticipation, the "Kings Dead" rapper let loose a trailer yesterday (June 5) that previews music from the project and details Rock's history as an artist.

The trailer, directed by aplus, opens with 2007 footage of Rock showing off his apartment at the Nickerson Gardens public housing complex in Watts, Compton. A young Kendrick Lamar, then rapping as K-Dot, flashes a peace sign in the background. The scene sets the tone for the trailer, which functions like a mini-documentary about Rock's come-up, featuring archival footage and interviews with Top Dawg Entertainment's major players.

"Jay Rock is about that struggle, that real music," Lamar says. "He's always there, physically, mentally, spiritually, because that's who he is."

"He can't go too long without telling you where he from," Ab-Soul jokes over footage of Rock in the projects.

An unreleased songs plays as the clip closes, heat presumably featured on Redemption. Jay has released one single from the project, "Win," featuring Kendrick. He also featured this year on the Black Panther soundtrack standout, "King's Dead." TDE's Championship Tour is currently traversing North America, with seven shows remaining.
