Today, April 8, is the 28th birthday of Memphis rapper Blac Youngsta.

Born in Memphis on April 8, 1990, Sammie Marquez Benson, later known as Blac Youngsta, was raised by his grandparents. Growing up poor and helping his family out by working at a local supermarket, Youngsta always wanted better. As he grew older, he decided to start rapping, due to the suggestion of a friend.

Blac Youngsta's series of early mixtapes found him under the wing of Yo Gotti, one of the biggest rappers from his city. The beginning of their relationship was one of learning, where Youngsta went with Yo Gotti on the road to learn the ins and outs of the music business. His time spent paid off, as Gotti signed him to his label CMG in 2015. Soon after, Youngsta dropped his first single, "Heavy," which also featured his new boss.

While Blac Youngsta is known as a rapper, he is also popular through his online antics. In the past, he has mocked Jay-Z with a giant money phone. He also posed as a McDonald's employee and attempted to take customer's orders at the drive-thru window.

The year 2017 saw Blac Youngsta signing a new deal with Epic Records, and releasing his single "Hip Hopper" with Lil Yachty. In 2018, he dropped his debut album 2.23, buoyed by the single "Booty" and its outrageous video. The song is about exactly what you think it is, and is his most popular track to date, peaking at No. 73 on the Billboard Hot 100.
