YBN Nahmir’s Pitch for 2018 XXL Freshman

Before the 2018 XXL Freshman class will be revealed this summer, the Freshman hopefuls are here to show and prove why they deserve a spot in this year’s class. The 10th Spot voting has officially launched, which means hip-hop's rising newcomers are vying for a spot on the 2018 XXL Freshman cover.

YBN Nahmir is one of the younger rappers in the game but he's holding his own when it comes to his rhymes and his merits. "Rubbin Off the Paint," which earned the 18-year-old rhymer an entry onto the Billboard Hot 100 chart in December of 2017, strays from the typical verse and hook formula and it's all the better for it. The track gives a glimpse into how the Birmingham, Ala. native passes the breeze and it's clear choppas and getting the bag are all included in a typical day.

Due to the song's rising popularity, Nahmir, an avid gamer, was blessed with several remixes from the likes of Vince Staples and Madeintyo plus a co-sign from Chris Brown on Instagram upped his clout factor. Spotify streams for the song sit at a hefty 72 million while the video for the track is at 103 million views.

And he's no one-hit one wonder. In addition to dropping freestyles over Lil Pump's "Gucci Gang" and Tay-K's "The Race," he joined Bhad Bhabie for her "Hi Bich (Remix)" and released a follow-up banger to "Rubbin Off the Paint," the Hoodzone-produced "Bounce Out With That." Once that six-count loop kicks off and Nahmir drops the lines, "Lately been on that fuck a nigga shit (fuck a nigga shit)/Take a nigga bitch and then I pass her to the clique (grra, pow, pow, pow)," he's back in his bag—his visual for the song is at 52 milli and counting. This July, he's heading out on tour with G-Eazy, Lil Uzi Vert, Ty Dolla Sign and P-Lo for The Endless Summer Tour. By that time, fans will hopefully be one step closer to his debut project.
