A lot of rappers have been making changes for the sake of their health in 2018, and Joey Bada$$ seems to be moving the same way. The Brooklyn MC stopped smoking weed towards the beginning of the year, and now he's explaining what effects it has had on his well-being.

In a new post to his Instagram story last week (March 9), Bada$$ reveals that he hasn't smoked weed for over two months. After fans sent in messages of concern and confusion, the "Devastated" rapper says that cutting out weed has been for his own betterment.

"Truth is I never seen myself smoking past 21. I been smoking everyday since 16, I am now 23, so I just took the new year as an opportunity to stop," he writes. "I feel 1000x better, focused and functional. Ain't no time to to chill, it's time to make mills type of time I'm on."

He also feels that smoking is for those who are older and have the time to relax. Since he's still young, he wants to be able to accomplish more, and even suggests to those looking to cope to take up meditation instead.

"I feel like smoking is for older people who have worked a long time and are looking to relax. Not for young people who have a lot more to accomplish and can't afford anything slowing them down from getting to their destination," he wrote. "I get it though a lot of you think you need it to cope with the stress trust me I been there, But, meditation is much better."

Joey also claims that the marijuana people are smoking today is much different than what was smoked back in the 1970s, as today it contains GMO.

"Also, the weed we smoking nowadays ain't the same shit they was smoke in the 70s," he continues. "It's all GMO now. Genetically modifying your DNA and whatnot. Why you think weed is becoming legal everywhere? Not just because it's lucrative, but it's now being used as a control tactic. Look it up and 'STAY WOKE.'"

The 23-year-old lyricist follows in the footsteps of other rappers who have decided to quit drinking lean, such as Mozzy and DJ Mustard, or stop taking Xanax pills, such as Smokepurpp and Lil Pump. While marijuana certainly doesn't match up to the dangers of ingesting lean or Xanax, it looks like there are some benefits of quitting it on a temporary basis.
