Before the 2018 XXL Freshman class will be revealed this summer, the Freshman hopefuls are here to show and prove why they deserve a spot in this year’s class. The 10th Spot voting has officially launched, which means hip-hop's rising newcomers are vying for a spot on the 2018 XXL Freshman cover.

West Coast rapper G Perico may be influenced by the gangsta rap of the 1990s, but he's crafted a sound all his own that doesn't sound dated. His music is highly elevated. Early standouts like "G Shit," off 2015's The Innerprize Two mixtape, earned him a big buzz in his city of South Central Los Angeles, proving the jheri curl-rocking rapper was on to something. Consistent releases like "Bacc Forth," "Gets My Staccs" and "Affiliated" are full of raw, authentic rhymes and stellar production. His lyrical expertise is best exemplified on 2016's Shit Don't Stop and his 2017 efforts All Blue and 2 Da Left.

On his own he's a force, but when he teams up with G-Worthy (a group comprised of himself, Jay Worthy and Cardo), it's just another way he can maximize on his potential. Just take a listen to their self-titled project to find out for yourself. And when it comes to freestyles, his latest series finds him putting his own spin on classics like Nas' "If I Ruled the World" and Tamia's "So Into You." Next up, G Perico will continue his momentum into 2018 with a new project.
