Call Me By Your Name breakout actor Timothée Chalamet has history with Kid Cudi—and Tuesday night (Feb. 20) the two were brought back together at a GQ party in Los Angeles.

It's no surprise that Cudi has inspired the youth for years, but Chalamet credits the artist with helping him to where he is today—having recently received Academy and Golden Globe Awards for Best Actor in the coming-of-age drama.

Chalamet actually met Kid Cudi right around the time he linked up with Luca Guadagnino, the director who went on to create Call Me By Your Name.

It was backstage at a Cudi show in Montreal that Chalamet happened to catch the "Pursuit of Happiness" artist, where he says the two then talked for hours. It was a pivotal point in Chalamet's career—he was at a crossroads deciding whether he had what it took to become an actor. Chalamet says Cudi gave him some advice that changed his life, and he ran home to right down everything the artist told him.

"The takeaway was: Are you, Timothée, the sort of person who can't possibly live any other way? 'Fuck yeah'." Chalamet's GQ cover story explained.

Fast forward several years, and the two are back in a room together in Los Angeles, both in significantly different places in their career. Videos show Chalamet embracing Kid Cudi in disbelief, and both are smiling from ear to ear.

Cudi gave Chalamet a shout-out in a video for GQ's Twitter, saying, "Timothée, boy, congratulations—I see you shining!"

Though Kid Cudi usually prefers to stay out of the limelight aside from his Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin' Tour, he stepped out with Kanye last week at the NBA All-Star Game, also in Los Angeles, to perform "Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1."
