Nipsey Hussle Faces Backlash for Homophobic Instagram Post

Nipsey Hussle has just landed himself in some pretty big trouble in social media circles. On Monday afternoon (Jan. 8), the rapper, whose self-made, aspirational underdog status has helped make him a lowkey idol for folks all around, uploaded an Instagram post in which he spoke down on the gay community.

Nipsey's offensive gesture came in the form of the caption for said post, which includes an image of a large group of Black boys and Black men.

"Demonstration speaks louder than Conversation," wrote Nip. "They gone feed us every image of our men and boys but this one. No hyper violent...No homo sexual...No abandoners....JUS STRONG BLAC MEN AND YOUNG Men. RESPECT TO MY BIG HOMIE @bigu1 for Leading with love and intelligence. GOD IS WITH US WHO CAN GO AGAINST US 💪🏾."

Nipsey's comment, of course, echoes a sentiment shared by a number in a certain subset of the Black community. There's a belief that the media conspires to show Black men in a light that either makes them appear too violent or feminine. This group equates homosexuality with weakness, and now, folks are getting the sense that Nipsey belongs to that group.

Nipsey Hussle's since defended his comments, and unsurprisingly, even with hip-hop's increasingly outward acceptance of the gay community, he's not backing down.

"I ain’t gotta be politically correct becuae I ain’t standing on Nobody else’s platform," tweeted Nipsey, whose album Victory Lap is due out in February. "I believe in LOVE and acceptance but u ain’t gone piss on my head and tell me it’s raining....NONE. I see Whas going on. Y’all should too.
#VictoryLap 2.16.18 tho 🏁."

Popular Black Lives Matter activist DeRay Mckesson, along with plenty of other Twitter voices, have also spoken out against Nipsey's homophobic post.
