Controversy sells, period. It's part of the reason 50 Cent was one of the biggest artists of the 2000s, and is the main element for reality shows like Love & Hip Hop becoming some of the most talked-about watches on television. It appears the controversy surrounding Brooklyn upstart 6ix9ine is helping to push his single, "Gummo" to new heights, as the song recently entered the Billboard Hot 100, debuting at No. 58.

The issues behind the rapper and the track are multi-layered. For one, the beat for the "Gummo" track was produced by Pierre Bourne, who gave it to Trippie Redd. Trippie ended up passing the instrumental to 6ix9ine, also known as Teka$hi 6ix9ine, which caused a rift with Bourne. 69 and Trippie eventually fell out as well, with the "Never Ever Land" rapper claiming he was jumped by Tek's posse.

Tekashi is also at the head of allegations of misconduct with a minor. He recently pled guilty to three felony counts of use of a child in a sexual performance. At the time of the alleged crime, the rapper says he was 17 years old and claims the young lady told him she was 19. The victim’s age is unconfirmed. All of this, added with the truly slappin' cut, is boosting curiosity for the New York MC that doesn't seem like it will go away any time soon.

In related news, it was recently revealed that Tekashi and Swizz Beatz have been working together after video surfaced of the two in the studio previewing a new track.
