Over the past two decades, few lyricists have enjoyed the mix of longevity, respect and fanfare like Fabolous and Jadakiss, two of the more revered rap artists of their generation. From platinum-selling studio albums to classic mixtapes, both have proved themselves to be formidable rhyme animals while constantly straddling the line between the underground and the mainstream. This is a balancing act that has been less than successful for a number of their peers and contemporaries. So when it was announced that the two New York natives would be teaming up for a collaborative project, the news drove the rap community into a frenzy. Fans began envisioning the barrage of grisly bars and punchlines that were sure to come.

However, the mixtape—initially billed as Freddy vs. Jasonwould continuously be postponed since the news of the two East Coast veterans joining forces broke in February 2016. Their supporters were left to question whether the project would be shelved like previous high-profile collaborative efforts and never see the light of day. Fabolous and Jadakiss would quiet concerns throughout 2017, vowing that the tape was not only coming out, but that it would be released as a studio album with all original production. The move upped the ante and drove anticipation for the project to a fever pitch.

The intended Halloween deadline may have been missed, squandering an epic opportunity to capitalize on the holiday and turn the release into an event, but Friday on Elm Street has finally arrived with a new title. The effort has caused fans of both the Yonkers legend and Brooklyn playboy to rejoice.

XXL takes a deep dive into Friday on Elm Street and highlights 20 of the hardest bars from Fab and Jada's latest.
