At 10 p.m. PST on Sunday night (Oct. 1), shots rang out at the Route 91 Harvest Festival, a country concert near the Las Vegas strip. CNN reports at least 50 people were killed and 400 more injured in the chaos as 64-year-old Las Vegas resident Stephen Paddock fired bullets into an unsuspecting crowd of concert-goers from the 32nd floor of Mandalay Bay Hotel. It is now considered the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. Paddock was later found dead.

In the hours following the tragic shooting, several members of the hip-hop community spoke on the matter and offered their condolences to those affected. For her part, Missy Elliott expressed profound disbelief at the state of the world, while sending her best wishes to the victims.

"Smh it was never this bad. Places u go to enjoy have become so unsafe!😢Prayers 4 those in Las Vegas who was there & the victims families🙏🏾," wrote Missy, lamenting the fact that concert spaces have become so violent. The attack comes less than five months after the horrific bombing at Ariana Grande's Manchester concert that left 22 people dead.

Rap mogul Russell Simmons shared a similar sentiment before pledging to try his best to affect legal change. "I am deeply saddened by what happened in Las Vegas last night. I am keeping all of the victims and their families in my prayers," he wrote in one tweet. "I will also do everything in my power to get Congress to pass comprehensive gun reform so these types of tragedies don't happen anymore," he said in another.

Lil Wayne kept his message brief but heartfelt, tweeting, "🙏🏽 for Vegas," echoing the voices of people across the country. Take a look at what the rest of the rap community has to say in the social media posts below.
