Hear Rapsody’s New Song “Power” With Kendrick Lamar and Lance Skiiiwalker

With her Laila's Wisdom album set to drop on Friday (Sept. 22), Rapsody pulls up with "Power," a soulful new 9th Wonder-produced meditation on the dimensions of strength and authority. She brought Kendrick Lamar and Lance Skiiiwalker along for the ride, too.

Floating over a track that sounds like a more densely hip-hop version of something you might find on To Pimp a Butterfly, Rapsody goes first, taking you everywhere from the power of femininity to the illusory strength of a gun. She kills it.

"Badge make police feel powerful in the hood/Guns make us feel powerful, but they don't do no good/I know my Blackness powerful, and they don't like that/I know some niggas so dead, sit back and watch them tap dance," the Roc Nation artist spits on the track.

Skiiiwalker handles the hook, and K. Dot, of course, also does his thing, as he so often does. Over the course of a good bit more than 16 bars, Kung Fu Kenny serves up his own deconstruction of power and what it means to different people, tying together grand ideas with sharp rhyme schemes and a tight flow.

"Talk about legacy/Let's talk about the life of celebrity/Versus integrity/Curse the first one that thirst for necessity/Searching for equity/Versus the earth that birthed us indefinitely/Verse the verse I wrote in jeopardy/Surfin’ the laws of the universe and destiny," he spits on the track.
