Today, Sept. 19, is the birthday of U.K. sensation Skepta. Skeppy turns 36 today.

Skepta, born Joseph Junior Adenuga, grew up in Tottenham, North London and started rapping as a teenager. Skep formed the rap collective Meridian Crew with fellow MCs President T, Jme and Big H in the early aughts, but the crew soon dissolved when some of the members went to jail. Jme and Skepta formed their Boy Better Know label in 2005 and continued to build their name as grime stars. Skepta dropped his debut album Greatest Hits in 2007.

Skepta's name began circulating around the U.K.—his 2008 single "Rolex Sweep" peaked at No. 89 on the UK Singles Chart—but he didn't start to gain buzz on an international level until 2014. Skepta's 2014 single "That's Not Me" caught fire online and soon, MCs like Ace Hood, Vic Mensa and A$AP Rocky started getting hip. In 2015 Drake featured Skepta's music on his July 2015 OVO Radio show. That same year, the two of them were appearing on songs together like Wizkid’s “Ojuelegba” remix and The Boy got a BBK tattoo in honor of Skepta's collective. Drake sent his fandom for a loop when he announced on Instagram that he signed to BBK in 2016.

Sketa dropped his fourth studio album Konnichiwa in May 2016 featuring Chip, Pharrell Williams, ASAP Nast and more. The LP peaked at No. 2 on Billboard's UK Albums chart.

In 2017, Skeppy traveled the country on his Banned From America tour, collaborating with the legendary Mick Jagger and get his own Nike collab with the Air Max 97 SK's. In 2018, Skeppy revealed that he had his first child on the way.

Happy Birthday, Skepta!
