Pouya Is Working on New Solo Album, ‘South Side Suicide 2′ Mixtape With SuicideBoys
Pouya is gearing up to release new music following the release of February's Drop Out of School, his collaborative album with Fat Nick. Since then, Pouya—who was just featured in SoundCloud's Next Wave documentary—has been working hard on some fresh sounds.
"I’m working on an album," the 22-year-old tells XXL over the phone. "I don’t have a name right now. Me and $uicideboy$ are going to do a South Side $uicide 2 mixtape. I’m really just working on this album and I got a few songs here and there with Flatbush Zombies that I’m working on. Me and Post Malone are going to do some shit, but mostly my main focus is my sophomore album."
The Miami native thinks his fans will be really satisfied with the new music he's been working on. As of right now, the album has no features. "Fans are just really going to love it because it’s just me; my real fans and my real supporters are going to enjoy it," he adds. "I don’t necessarily box myself in and say I’m going for this sound but it’s too early to tell. [The album] is going to be very versatile with all types of sounds."
Pouya is one of the many young stars making a name for themselves out of South Florida. Denzel Curry, XXXTentacion, Ski Mask The Slump God, Wifisfuneral, Smokepurpp, Bruno Mali Kidd, Lil Pump and Fat Nick are just some of the other rhymers making waves out of the state. The region is finally getting the recognition it deserves musically, according to the "1000 Rounds" rapper.
"It's long overdue," Pouya adds. "I’ve been doing this since 2011, so I’ve seen everybody come and go and people stay. I seen Raider Klan, I seen Denzel Curry, Yung Simmie and now we got XXXTentacion, Lil Pump, Smokepurpp, we got Fat Nick, we got a good scene going. I don’t think it’s necessarily late because I think every dog has his day. But it’s good to see that people are waking up. I love to see a fellow Floridian making it. It’s hard out here man."
