Andre 3000 Has an Unreleased Song With GoldLink

A couple weeks ago, GoldLink turned in an unnaturally dope cover of OutKast's "Roses," putting his own fresh spin on André 3000's part of the song. It was so dope, in fact, that by the end of the tribute performance, you might have found yourself asking, "Why haven't 3 Stacks and GoldLink collabed yet?" As it turns it out, they actually have.

The revelation comes courtesy of musician/illustrator Matt Martians, who announced the existence of a collab between himself, 3 Stacks, Steve Lacy and GoldLink on Twitter on Wednesday morning (Aug. 2).

"hopefully the song me, steve and goldlink have with 3stacks sees the light of day some day .... 😥," Martians tweeted in a pretty tantalizing bit of news. Of course, the cut hasn't been released yet.

A track featuring GoldLink and André 3000 makes too much sense to be anything less than absolute flames. GoldLink's primarily a rapper, but he's got a lithe, malleable set of vocals and a knack for musical experimentation that makes him especially adept at the sort genre shifting 3 Stacks is known for. They were spotted in the studio back in March, but we've yet to hear the fruits of their session.

Hopefully we get the collab at some point in the very near future, because 3 Stacks is a busy man. Recently, the rap legend starred in Tretorn’s Fall 2017 Campaign, and that's arguably just the tip of the iceberg with this guy.

3 Stacks is doing a little of everything these days, but not necessarily too much rapping—which is something he's fine with. During a recent interview, André explained that he didn't want to be rapping at age 50 and that he's cool if he never does another OutKast album. For him, rap's just sort of lost its luster, though he'll still drop fire guest verses from time to time.

“It’s really just an excitement thing, and where I am in life. I kind of like not being a part of [rap], now that I’ve done it,” he explained. “As I get older, I start to see myself move more back from it—the hustle and bustle of putting out an album, the pressure of being in the studio trying to come up with something. Now it’s more like a hobby for me, so I don’t think about it in that way. Even with OutKast — if we never do another album, I’m totally fine with that. When I was 25, I said I don’t want to be a 30-year-old rapper. I’m 42 now, and I feel more and more that way. Do I really want to be 50 years old up there doing that? When I watch other rappers that are my age I commend them, but I just wonder where the inspiration is coming from. At this stage I’m really more focused on what I am going to be doing 10 years from now. And I hope to God it won’t be rapping.”
