Ty Dolla Sign Says ‘Free TC’ Project Got His Brother Punished in Jail

Ty Dolla $ign will be a bit more careful when it comes to his brother's appearance on his next project, Beach House 3

After Ty dropped his debut album, Free TC, back in 2015, his fans were all too familiar with the relationship the R&B singer had with his incarcerated brother, Big TC, who appeared on "Miracle/Wherever." When explaining the background behind the project, the 2014 XXL Freshman spoke freely about his sibling being "wrongly accused" of murder. "I want to raise awareness to the racial and social injustices and mass incarceration that’s going on in our country right now. This is more than just an album; it’s a movement," Ty shared with XXL at the time. According to his latest interview, however, the project seems to have done Big TC more harm than good.

During his talk with The Guardian, Ty spoke on his forthcoming Beach House 3 project and revealed he will not be placing too much focus on his brother—who is currently serving a life sentence—this time around.

“If he was out we’d probably be making songs together right here in the studio,” Ty admitted. “After Free TC, he just got hella attention and something happened where it got back to them and he ended up getting locked in the hole for a long-ass time, so right now there isn’t a song on Beach House 3 with him.”

Shortly after the release of Free TC, the L.A. native dropped "No Justice," which primarily featured Big TC, as well as a documentary that shares the album's name. It has not been confirmed that his features were what got him placed in solitary.

On the bright side, Ty Dolla $ign has continued to be an ongoing presence on hip-hop tracks. This year alone, he's been featured on nearly a dozen songs, including 2 Chainz's "It's a Vibe," Meek Mill's "Whatever You Need," and most recently, Tyga's "Move to L.A."

Beach House 3 is expected to drop some time this year.
