Squidnice Drops New Song “OMG” With Smooky Margielaa

Since bursting onto the scene in March of 2015 with "Trap By My Lonely," Staten Island rapper Squidnice and his team have carefully planned his releases to keep him steadily buzzing. "OMG," his latest release with South Bronx artist Smooky Margielaa, is a proclamation of that growth, namely the hook: "In and out the block/I've been getting hot."

On "OMG," Smooky and Squid sing of their savage behavior towards women and the chumps of their city. Smooky's unique, high-pitched voice balances out Squidnice's baritone voice over the heavy production from Alex Goose and Sad Pony. This song sounds like something that trappers bump in their whips on the way to church on Sundays. The retelling of Smooky's and Squid's dastardly acts almost act as a confession that others can relate to. But the song still has a way to go before it can cross over into something resembling a gospel song.

This latest single comes only a day after Squidnice released "Lit Now," which was produced by Adrian Lau—he also produced "Nina." "OMG" also appears on one of Squid's SoundCloud playlists in tandem with Gloss Gang's song "Still." The variation in production among these songs prove that Squidnice has the versatility to make a hit out of more than a bass-dominated track like "Trap By My Lonely."

The 20-year-old rapper has been receiving love from all angles, including a spot on Frank Ocean's Blonded Radio, an appearance in clothing line Carrots' 2017 Spring/Summer lookbook and a set at 10.Deep's Culture Clash two weeks ago. Staten Island finally has a new, young artist to champion in hip-hop.
