Diplo Has a Drake Collab That Never Came Out
Diplo, along with his Major Lazer collective, has done big things with his work mixing the sounds of hip-hop, dancehall, electronic music and other genres, so it's a bit of a mystery why he hasn't worked with Drake—a fellow genre alchemist—on any of their newest projects. Well, it turns out he has.
In a new interview on DJ Whoo Kid's Shade 45 radio show, The Whoolywood Shuffle, the production dynamo, who recently announced he was doing an EP with Starrah, reveals that he has, in fact, collaborated with Toronto's favorite son recently. It just didn't make the cut for one of Drizzy's projects.
When asked if he'd worked with Drizzy on any music, Diplo explains that he and the record-breaking rapper are in regular contact with one another and that he's always down to work with the rapping-singing talent.
"I texted him some ideas. Every once in a while he always hits me up. We did a demo for his project that didn't make the album, but, I'm always down for Drake. He's like one of my favorite current artists right now," Diplo says of the track he did for Drizzy.
Elsewhere in the interview, Diplo—who, along with Major Lazer, recently dropped their Know No Better EP—reveals XXXTentacion leaked their collab, "Looking for a Star," before he'd even mixed it. You can check out a portion of Whoo Kid and Diplo's revealing discussion below. The Drake bit comes in at the seven-minute mark.
You can hear more of this discussion when The Whoolywood Shuffle airs exclusively on Shade 45 Radio this Saturday (June 10) from 12-6 p.m. EST.
