Celebrities React to Prodigy’s Death
The hip-hop world came to a halt Tuesday (June 20) when news broke that Mobb Deep's Prodigy had passed away in Las Vegas. Fans and rappers alike went on social media to send their condolences to his loved ones, including P's fellow Mobb Deep member Havoc. The other half of the legendary hip-hop duo posted a photo of himself and Prodigy and captioned it "Forever," which pretty much sums up the thoughts of everyone in mourning when it comes to Prodigy's legacy.
Bandana P's bars reached much further than hip-hop, as proven by those like singer Justin Timberlake, who yesterday tweeted about the impact "Shook Ones" had on his career. "It made me really appreciate how a vocal could swing in rhythm to a beat the same way. RIP Prodigy. I wish I could have known you," he wrote.
LeBron James also paid homage to the late MC by listening to his favorite cuts from the rapper last night. Even the New York Yankees took part in tribute, playing the instrumental to "Shook Ones Pt. II" yesterday before their game against the Los Angeles Angels.
XXL has highlighted some of the Queensbridge spitter's best guest verses and songs with Mobb Deep, including classic lines from "Gusto" and LL Cool J's "I Shot Ya" remix in the former. The man will forever be remembered as one of New York's most groundbreaking lyricists, and judging from the tweets and Instagram posts below, his words will remain in the hearts of those you may have never even expected.
Rest in Power, Prodigy.
This completely sucks so bad that I'm writing a post about another friend, another legend, gone. These moments teach me that along with family, we're blessed with friends who we can share moments with. Life is too short. Honor the people closest to you. This is what life is about. To me, just like everyone else P was a legend. So to become a friend of his was probably the coolest thing that could happen to me. Working in films with great actors is awesome, but never came close to being friends with someone like P. Humble giant. Quiet confidence. You gave me my first deal in rap P. Thank you. Forever grateful to you for believing in me and more importantly being a friend. Our last correspondence was a month ago. What did we talk about? Our children. My condolences and prayers to Shaka and Tasia. Blessings to you. Your dad loved the heck outta you. This sucks. Infamous forever. P is forever. Love you P.
