They. Drop Surreal “Back It Up” Video
They. returns with a surreal new visual for "Back It Up" just in time for the start of their Nü Religion European Tour. The track itself is from Nü Religion, the debut EP from the duo comprised of singer Drew and producer Dante.
The new visual, which was directed by Psycho Films, is as colorful as it is surreal, featuring images of a beautiful woman reclining in a whip as it's engulfed by a purple mist along with silhouettes of Drew and Dante covered in kaleidoscopic colors. The song itself is super-sultry, so the mysterious and seductive video fits pretty well.
"Back It Up" is a perfect example of Drew and Dante's chemistry at work, and that's something you'll get a lot of when you listen to Nü Religion: Hyena, the debut album they dropped a few months ago. In fact, that's pretty much all you'll get; the project doesn't have any features. Back in March, Drew went into a little bit of why, exactly, that was the case.
“There was times when we riddled with it like, ‘This person would sound cool on this,’ ‘This person would sound cool on that.’ Thought about reaching out, whatever, but then we took a step back and Dante was just like, ‘Yo!’ He was really more of the one more than anybody that was just like, ‘Yo, no features,'” Drew told XXL. “Just something to have our own cohesive body of work, doing it all yourself, doing all the beats and writing everything yourself and having nobody else on it and it be fire. There’s so much more respect in that.”
