Today, May 3, is the birthday of Brooklyn rapper Desiigner, who is now 21 years of age.

Desiigner popped off in 2016 big time with his breakout song "Panda." The infectious SoundCloud single produced by UK beat smith Menace and first released in December 2015 caused rap fans to compare Desiigner's sound to ATL rapper Future. "Panda" was heavily sampled on Kanye West's 2016 The Life of Pablo album in the track "Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 2." This look only heightened Desiigner's exposure and led to the young buck getting signed to G.O.O.D Music that same month. "Panda" finally hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in April 2016.

Based off his momentum, his infectious music and a G.O.O.D cosign, Desiigner earned a spot on the 2016 XXL Freshman cover alongside the likes of Lil Uzi Vert, 21 Savage, Lil Yachty and more. Following the cover reveal, Desiigner dropped his debut project under G.O.O.D, the New English mixtape and hit the studio with Mike Dean to work on music, creating his next single "Timmy Turner" from his 2016 Freshman freestyle.

Desiigner's raps are often punctuated by crazy, inaudible adlibs and these sound effects have become his musical signature. In the spring of 2017, the always-energized performer headlined his own tour and made plans to drop of his debut to drop his debut album, Life of Desiigner.

While the newly minted 21-year-old hasn't dropped much in the way of new music between 2017 and 2018, he's occasionally popped up with new tunes that showcase his grasp of melody and capacity to make bangers. Here's to hoping we get that album soon, though!

Happy Birthday, Desiigner!
