Ludacris Will Host ‘Fear Factor’ Revival on MTV
According to THR, Luda’s new hosting gig on the show—which focuses on contestants competing in myriad games that are either dangerous or inhumanely gross, and sometimes both—is a part of a new TV deal The Fate of the Furious star has signed with the Viacom-owned network. The “Vitamin D” rapper will also executive-produce the new iteration of the show, which is slated to have 12 episodes and premiere on MTV on May 30 at 10 p.m. EST.
Fear Factor is definitely coming back, but it won’t be the same one that debuted on NBC back in 2001. The new show will forego the more stomach-churning challenges like worm-eating in favor of more playful activities serving to act as a “cathartic tension release” for contestants.
The new “games” will be “inspired by urban legends, scary movies and online videos from the zeitgeist,” and look to play on the “visceral fears” of the anxiety-plagued youth of today. Some of the games will include couch surfing at heights of 300 feet off the ground and waterlogging cell phones.
Each episode will last an hour and will feature eight contestants split-up into four groups of two, with the pairs being often being comprised of siblings, college rivals, best friends, etc. Of course, all contestants will be competing for a cash prize.
Endemol Shine North America, the folks responsible for producing the first iteration of Fear Factor, are returning to MTV’s version of the show to work in the same sort of role.
All in all, this is definitely a good look for Luda, and we can’t wait to see how it turns out.
