Today, April 18, is the 24th birthday of Portland, Ore. rapper Aminé.

The newcomer hasn't had the longest career in hip-hop so far, but he's certainly broken into the game with a bang these past few years. The young upstart began making music as a teen and dropped his first project Odyssey to Me in 2014. Aminé kept grinding in Portland's music scene until he struck viral success in the spring of 2016.

In the spring of 2016, the rapper dropped the single "Caroline." Thanks to a catchy cadence, Aminé's snarky lyrics, the song and it's accompanying music video—which the rapper shot himself—went crazy online. The song went on to be one of the biggest bangers of Summer 2016. Speaking on the meaning of his hit record, Aminé said, "I wrote this song with the intentions of hopefully making a modern day 'Billie Jean.' Caroline represents the handful of women I’ve met in my life that I would put genuine effort in."

"Caroline" peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 by December 2016, but the Republic Records signee hasn't slowed down yet. Aminé's dropped follow-up singles "Baba" and "RedMercedes" on his SoundCloud for fans to hear. In early 2017, the rapper delivered an extra-wild new visual when he dressed up in white face for his hilarious music video to "RedMercedes."

Months later, in June, Aminé was named a 2017 XXL Freshman, a moment that solidified what had been a meteoric rise to rap stardom. He also more than handled business when it came to his Freshman cypher.

In July, the Portland, Ore. rapper built upon what had already been a super successful 2017 when he unleashed his Good for You album. With quirky rhymes, adventurous vibes, the project featured just about all that makes Aminé one of rap's most dynamic artists. Of course, everyone knew "Caroline" by the time the rapper's debut LP landed, but songs like "Spice Girl" proved to be a worthy crossover successor.

In 2018, Aminé's been just a tad bit quieter, but that hasn't stopped him from popping up every now and again to remind the world what he's got to offer. Back in February, he delivered an epic L.A. Leakers freestyle over Clipse's "Momma I'm Sorry" instrumental. In April, he teamed with Jeremih for "For the F^_^k of It," a cut from an electronic music duo by the name of Snakehips.

In the next act of 2018, Aminé teamed with Injury Reserve for "Campfire," an eccentric new song and video that's once again reminded the world that he's one of the most interesting up-and-comers the music world's got to offer. As if that weren't enough, he also took the stage at the 2018 Coachella.

Aminé's cool, kooky brand of rap is gaining momentum with fans by the day and thanks to a strong work ethic and inexhaustible creativity, the rapper's on the right track to make a big impact throughout the rest of 2018 and beyond.

Happy Birthday, Aminé!
