French Montana will not be performing in Syracuse. The “Unforgettable” rapper has cancelled his show at Onondaga Community College, which was scheduled to take place on Friday (April 21).

No reason for the cancellation has been announced, according to Syracuse.com. Tickets purchased with credit cards will start being refunded tomorrow (April 19). Fans who purchased tickets with cash can get their refund at the IBEW/NECA Box Office in the SRC Arena.

French Montana has been in the headlines of late after he clapped back at Twitter user who was antagonizing him. The Bronx-based artist was criticized for using the word “nappy” to describe the woman.

In response to the controversy, French called into The Breakfast Club to defend himself. The rapper said he did not know nappy was a racist term and was simply firing back at someone who attacked him on social media.

“I didn’t say that [to every woman], I said that to her. I love my Queens, but I can’t take it when somebody come at me then when I clap back…you know what I’m saying?” French said. “I’m not gonna let nobody say something to me and I don’t say nothing back. I don’t know why they turned it to like a racist thing. There’s other things to worry about that’s really racist out here. I’m just defending myself. You can’t defend yourself out here no more?”

French’s explanation probably won’t do much to sway opinions. Perhaps the MC’s “Unforgettable” dance challenge will bury the story and divert attention away from his controversial choice of words.
