BET is making some major moves to follow up the monumental success of their New Edition Story three-part movie that aired last year. On top of signing on for a Nas biopic, the television network has reportedly given the green light to a new limited series called Death Row Chronicles, which covers the story of the controversial record label.

The documentary series will be based around the rise and fall of the powerhouse label, which was co-founded by Suge Knight in 1991, and is slated to have six hour-long episodes. The series will be a “part true-crime murder mystery and part hip-hop drama,” according to Billboard.

The outlet reports that production for the series will start this spring, with hopes that BET will air it summer of 2018 as a targeted release date. It’s currently being produced by Entertainment One (eOne) and Creature Films.

Death Row Chronicles also follows in the footsteps of the All Eyez On Me biopic, which covers the life and tragic death of Tupac Shakur, who was murdered in Sept. 1996 while signed to the Death Row label. The biopic covering the late icon’s life is set to hit theaters this summer on June 16.

We’ll have to see what’s in store for the upcoming documentary series, but if it’s anything like the New Edition biopic, we’re in for some great content.
