Stormzy Covers Frank Ocean’s “Godspeed” With a Choir on BBC Radio 1Xtra

U.K. grime rapper Stormzy has been turning a lot of heads lately with his music talents. Now, he hit BBC Radio to deliver a dope cover of Frank Ocean’s “Godspeed” record.

During an interview with BBC Radio 1Xtra, the Gang Signs & Prayer rapper blessed the radio show and his fans with a crazy cover to Frank Ocean’s song. The cover beings at the 11:33 mark of the 13 and a half minute video. Accompanied by a choir, the artist showcased his harmonizing skills and his passion for this heartfelt song. This cover was apart of his “Live Lounge” takeover in which Stormzy also performed a handful of records from his recently released album.

Last month, Stormzy spit a dope freestyle over an artist’s beat who had brung him on stage during their BRIT Awards performance back in 2015. Kanye West was that artist. The U.K. spitter rapped over Ye’s “Ultralight Beam” via BBC Radio and he also gave a brief explanation on why he decided to rap over that instrumental.

“The reason why I did this cover today is this song means a lot to me, and I love the message of this song,” Stormzy said. “I love the musicality of the song.”

The U.K. has had a lot of success musically throughout his short career. His recent album Gang Signs & Prayers hit No. 1 on the U.K. music charts with a combination of 69,000 units sold. Stormzy’s album also broke another record as it became the the most streamed No. 1 U.K. album beating out stream kings Drake and Justin Beiber.

Stormzy is doing a lot of great things with his musical efforts and it seems like he’s continuing to get the recognition he deserves.
