Back in 2015, London rapper Stormzy was a part of the group onstage for Kanye West‘s memorable “All Day” performance at The BRIT Awards. Now, Stormzy drops an ill freestyle over Kanye’s “Ultralight Beam.”

You can listen to the freestyle via BBC Radio 1. Stormzy spits his heartfelt freestyle at the two-hour, 13-minute mark of the radio program. “They told me that by this time it would all be over/But I ain’t runnin’ out of luck, I treat the game like poker,” the 23-year-old MC spits. “I know they put me on the poster just to match the quota/I’d rather be a Lionel Messi than a Franky Zola.”

Stormzy goes on to rap about his girlfriend Maya Jama, his label status, his money situation and more. He concludes the verse with the powerful line, “This is what it sounds like when South London meets salvation.”

The UK artist also explains why he chose Kanye West’s “Ultralight Beam” for his freestyle. “The reason why I did this cover today is this song means a lot to me, and I love the message of this song,” Stormzy says. “I love the musicality of the song. It’s one of my favorite songs, both just from how I feel about it and from an artist’s point of view, I just appreciate everything about it. The lyrics, the melodies, the way it was composed together, so it’s a song that inspires me.”

You can check out the freestyle right here on BBC Radio 1. Stormzy’s debut album Gang Signs & Prayer is set to release on Fri., Feb. 24.
