Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly will be immortalized in Harvard University’s library. 9th Wonder, who is curating Harvard’s These Are the Breaks project, chose Kendrick’s 2015 LP as one of the first four hip-hop albums to be archived in the university’s library.

To Pimp a Butterfly will be archived alongside three classics: Nas’ Illmatic, A Tribe Called Quest’s The Low End Theory and Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. 9th Wonder revealed his selections this past weekend in a since-deleted Instagram post.

“In 2012, I was chosen to be a Harvard University Fellow at The Dubois Institute under the direction of @henrylouisgates and Dr. Marcy Morgan,” 9th Wonder wrote. “I chose the research project ‘These Are The Breaks’….a collection of albums that are the standard of the culture…..200 in all in no particular order. These are the first four we chose to start with….to live for forever in the Harvard Library…and to be forever placed in the canon…complete with liner notes and the vinyl that was used in the production of the album…… To live forever….shouts @levelsoundz and @madtwiinz for the masterful design of the boxes and content. @HarvardUniversity @TheHipHopArchive 4 down.. 196 to go…”

Each album is going to archived with liner notes and the vinyl that was used in the original production. Fans will have a chance to see Kendrick perform tracks from his Harvard-approved LP soon as the Top Dawg Ent. artist is set to headline two major festivals. The Compton rapper is on top of the bills for April’s Coachella Festival and May’s Rolling Loud Festival.
