There’s a Kanye West Course at Washington University

Kanye West is undoubtedly one of the most interesting artists of our time. Now, there's a new course at Washington University in St. Louis focused on everything Yeezy.

Seventy-five students are currently registered for "Politics of Kanye West: Black Genius and Sonic Aesthetics," a course which began this week. Professor Jeffrey McCune tells Billboard there's a waiting list to sign up for the class, which provides a chance for students to connect issues of politics, race, gender, sexuality and culture.

It's not the first college course about 'Ye. In 2014, the University of Missouri offered a course focused on Kanye and Jay Z. That course explored three main themes, including where West and Hov fit within, and how they change, the history of hip-hop music.

Additionally, the class looked at how their work is similar to and different from the work of poets. And lastly, does their rise to both celebrity and corporate power alter what we understand as the American dream?

Then, in 2015, Georgia State University offered a course called "Kanye Versus Everybody: Black Poetry and Poetics from Hughes to Hip Hop." That class studied Kanye's work in order to get a good look at the development of African-American poetry throughout history.

Props to Washington University in St. Louis for being the latest school to design a college course about the college dropout.
