Chance The Rapper, Earl Sweatshirt and Vince Staples Inspire Rock Artist John Cale’s New Album

John Cale, a founding member of The Velvet Underground, is listening to a lot of hip-hop in preparation for his next album. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer named Chance The Rapper, Earl Sweatshirt, Vince Staples, Mike Will Made-It and Domo Genesis as some of the hip-hop artists that have influenced his next record.

"There's a lot of movement going on [in hip-hop] and it's really inspiring," Cale told Jehnny Beth on her Beats 1 Radio show.

Chance The Rapper has inspired a lot of musicians due to his ability to make major moves without a major label. But the Chicago native has certainly been tempted by deals. Chance's idol Kanye West offered him the chance to sign to G.O.O.D. Music, but the "No Problem" MC managed to resist.

“It’s not easy at all,” Chance recently told ABC’s Robin Miller. “Definitely not telling Kanye no. It’s definitely hard keeping that resistance, but I want to teach people that it’s doable.”

At this point in Chance's career, there is no need to link up with a marquee label. The young rhymer has become one of the biggest names in the industry and landed headlining gigs at festivals like the Governors Ball 2017. Chance will be sharing the stage with many other hip-hop acts. Wu-Tang Clan, Childish Gambino, Wiz Khalifa, Logic, Rae Sremmurd, Schoolboy Q, Danny Brown, A$AP Ferg and YG are also scheduled to perform at the upcoming festival.
