With his unique style, Lil Uzi Vert has drawn the attention of many while establishing a brand that's all his own. Still, his unique sound hasn't stopped A$AP Rocky from comparing the ascendant rap star to one New Orleans rap legend.

"His style, his approach and his voice: I don't think I've heard somebody as raspy since [Lil] Wayne," Rocky said of Uzi in a recent interview. It's an interesting comparison, though Uzi probably wouldn't compare himself to any one rapper. DJ Drama, who signed to Uzi to his Generation Now record label back in 2015, wouldn't either.

"I don't like to categorize Uzi with any other artists in his class," said Drama. "I just think time will tell. You got to give these kids a chance to grow." Uzi has been doing a lot of growing these days, and about two weeks ago, people thought he'd be continuing his growth on Wiz Khalifa's Taylor Gang record label.  DJ Drama and Don Cannon both respectfully shot down the rumor shortly afterwards.

“Due to any confusion or contrary belief, Lil Uzi Vert is only ‘Signed’ to Generation Now, LLC!” Drama wrote in a tweet at the end of December. Cannon reinforced his sentiments in his own tweet about the situation. “Respectfully, we have alotta of love for Taylor Gang and Wiz, but Lil Uzi Vert is signed to Generation Now. Here is your answer.”

Drama sounds pretty protective of the rising Philly rapper, and it's easy to understand why. Keep it locked with XXL for more updates.
