Aaron Cohen Can’t Be Stopped on New Song ‘Cake Up’

It's only been 12 days since the ball dropped and Seattle's own Aaron Cohen is already making moves with the release of a new song. His latest record, "Cake Up," premiered exclusively on XXL, is produced by longtime collaborator Kemal, who crafted the entirety of his 2016 EP Off the Ground.

Over heavy drums, the rhymer is no match for his haters. "No competition, man, this shit's too easy/They throw a lot of shade, I just wear it like Stevie/The dark glasses on the cover of my eyes/She got a fat ass, I keep my lover in disguise/A bad bitch in regular clothes, ya got regular hoes, makin' regular dough, spittin' regular flows," he raps.

The track is a tasty appetizer of what Cohen will be cooking up over the next 365 days. "The track is inspired by the issues that come up when I'm trying to be a decent person while making it in the music business," he tells XXL of the track's inspiration. "There's never time to slow down and see what's really important in life, and at the end of the day you gotta put philosophy to the side and just go out there and get your cake up."

The record is slated to appear on Cohen's next project, New Grunge City, which will also be produced by Kemal. While the effort doesn't have a release date yet, it's tentatively slated for a spring debut.

On top of upcoming new music releases, the rapper is preparing for a string of shows on the West Coast including taking the stage at Low End Theory in LA. Then he's headed across the pond for a European tour; his first headline show is in Paris on April 7. "It's going to be a good year," he states.

With a 2016 that included a Korean tour and critical praise, it's a fair prediction.

If this song is any indication of what he has in store for 2017, Aaron Cohen looks to have a promising year.
