Back in September, Nipsey Hussle dropped a song titled "I Get Paid" with J. Stone and GI Joe, and on Instagram Wednesday (Dec. 14) the West Coast rapper backed up the claim, posting an income just south of a million dollars. The screenshot, taken from Tunecore, a music distribution site for independent artists, mentions "in this period" though it's not clear if that means this year or some other unit of time.

"No [flex]," Nipsey wrote. "for motivational purposes only. The money's IN controlling ya catalogue...don't let UM lie to u. #MAILBOXMONEY."

Nipsey dropped his Famous Lies and Unpopular Truths EP last month, featuring Rick Ross and Freeway, though in truth he has been releasing music throughout the year, his "FDT" with YG winding up on XXL's list of the Best 50 Hip-Hop Songs of the Year. Nipsey and YG spoke for millions with their anti-Trump anthem, the former writing, "When people show u who they are believe them. Smart move but Where ya heart at ?" on Twitter after Kanye West met with the President-elect earlier this week.

Independent artists have had quite the year, Chance The Rapper making Billboard history when Coloring Book debuted in the top ten on the Album 200 chart without any physical pressing. Nipsey has more than his success to celebrate this year as well, as he and longtime girlfriend, actress Lauren London, welcomed a baby boy, Kross, their first child together, on Aug. 31.
