Lupe Fiasco Cancels All His Albums

Is Lupe Fiasco retiring? On Tuesday (Dec. 13), the Chicago rapper took to Twitter and announced that all his future albums are cancelled.

At 10:16 a.m. on Tuesday, the Food & Liquor MC tweeted, “I get the hint God. Yo Lupe fans it’s been fun and I hope you’ve had fun. I’m officially not releasing anymore music. Albums cancelled.” Nobody is exactly sure what caused the sudden announcement. The 34-year-old had been planning to drop three albums this year.

On Monday (Dec. 12), Lupe delivered a new song called “N.E.R.D.” On the record, Lupe addresses MCs who get bamboozled by the major labels. “Artists gettin’ robbed before they publish/By dirty Jewish execs that think his alms from the covenant/I’ll retire when I’m tired, that’s a Firestone death/Easy to say when nobody’s there, like a microphone check.”

He came under fire for that line about Jewish execs, but defended it nonetheless.

Notice the second-to-last line, “I’ll retire when I’m tired.” Does Fiasco’s apparent retirement mean he’s just sick and tired of the rap game?

“N.E.R.D.” followed up the snippet of Lupe’s new song “Killers,” which he previewed last week (Dec. 5). Fans have been patiently waiting for Lupe’s next album Drogas Light to hit stores. As aforementioned, he once said he was releasing three albums this year, but he couldn’t drop any because of clearance and mixing issues. Now, it appears that he won’t be dropping any sort of project.
