Today, Dec. 12, D.C. rapper Shy Glizzy celebrates his 26th birthday.

Marquis King was born and raised in the Washington, D.C. area and got into music from a young age. Influenced by go-go, Glizzy began dropping music in early 2011. His 2012 tape Law got him noticed on a national scale. But it wasn't until his 2014 mixtapes Young Jefe and the DJ Drama-hosted Law 3 that the Glizzy Gang member gained real attention. In 2015, Glizzy earned his spot on the 2015 XXL Freshman roster alongside Fetty Wap, K Camp, DeJ Loaf and more.

Best known for tracks that balance between moods joyful and downcast, Glizzy's flow and delivery are something unique to the rap game these day. Two of Glizzy's most popular songs to date, “Awwsome,” a straight foward celebration of self, and “Funeral,” a lighthearted reflection on who he wants to see celebrating his life when he dies, are prime examples of this.

Glizzy has worked with Young Thug, PeeWee Longway, Plies, Trinidad James, Metro Boomin and more. He dropped his Young Jefe 2 project in July of 2016, which received a warm reception and garnered plenty of co-signs, making its way onto the Billboard Heatseekers chart.

2017 served as a monumental year for the Maryland native, as Glizzy kicked things off with his The World Is Yours EP in the early part of the year. He also earned himself a Grammy nomination in the Best Rap/Sung Performance category for his notable verse on Goldlink's song "Crew" with Brent Faiyaz. The hit record became certified platinum since its original late-2016 release under RCA Records. To cap off the year, Glizzy released his Quiet Storm mixtape to much critical acclaim.

Most recently, the D.C. MC dropped Fully Loaded, a 19-track project featuring contributions from notable artists like Young Thug, Lil Uzi Vert, Rick Ross, Smokepurpp, Lil Durk and more.
