Russell Simmons Pens Open Letter to Donald Trump and America
Donald Trump is the next President of the United States of America. Now what? Will all of our lives change drastically? Will the brash leader plummet the nation into World War 3? Is this the beginning of the end? Only time will tell. But Russell Simmons isn't waiting until things get bad to have an open dialog.
The Def Jam co-founder recently penned an open letter to the upcoming POTUS, who he says he's known for "nearly 30 years," for the Huffington Post.
In it, he tries to reason with the man who at times has seemed unreasonable. "While I disagree with many of the things that you have said during your campaign and many of your policies that you have proposed, you will still be our president, and I am willing to work for and with you," Simmons wrote.
Later in the letter, he attacked the Republican's campaign rhetoric. "Donald, you cannot target a religious group of people," he wrote. "That is dangerous. You cannot separate families and deport people who have only known this country as their home. That is immoral. Donald, you cannot further militarize the police and empower them to antagonize and terrorize black communities. That is unjust. You cannot wage war against women’s rights. That is disastrous. You must stop with the hateful and harmful language towards women and people of color. That is unacceptable."
