Russell Simmons’ All Def Comedy Returns With DJ Drama, Tony Rock and More

Hip-hop heads are more than familiar with the likes of Dave Chappelle, Chris Tucker and Martin Lawrence, comedians that got their start on the famed HBO series, Russell Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam. Now the man that launched Def Jam Recordings is bringing the laughs back to TV in the form of All Def Comedy.

The show premieres this Saturday (Nov. 12) at 10 p.m. ET on HBO and is hosted by comedian Tony Rock with DJ Drama adding his hip-hop expertise into the mix. The uncensored special, which was taped before a live audience Sept. 7 at the Avalon Theatre in Los Angeles, will feature stand-up performances in a variety of styles from new comics discovered at ADD’s weekly comedy showcase.

Look out for comedians Chris Powell, Zainab Johnson, Kevin Tate, Robert Powell, and HBO’s Def Comedy Jam veteran Tony Roberts to take the stage for All Def Comedy, which is executive produced by Russell Simmons and Stan Lathan.

Russell Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam originally aired on HBO from 1992-1997 and returned in 2006. Bernie Mack, Dave Chappelle, Chris Tucker, Martin Lawrence, Cedric the Entertainer and Bill Bellamy all got their start on the legendary Def Comedy Jam stage.
