Today, Nov. 14, is the 40th birthday of Detroit rapper Obie Trice!

The gritty MC started to rhyme when he was 11 years old. As a teenager, Obie was mentored by rapper Proof of Detroit crew D12. Through Proof, Trice linked up with Eminem, and Em was so impressed by Trice's rhymes and delivery, he signed him almost instantly.

In 2000, Obie became the second act to ever be signed by Shady Records. Obie made several appearances on Em's albums, including 2002's The Eminem Show on songs like "Without Me" and "Drips." Obie dropped his own debut album under Shady with 2003's Cheers. With features from Busta Rhymes, Eminem, 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, Dr. Dre and more—and executive production by Eminem—the album went platinum in sales.

After dropping three albums in total with Shady, Obie parted ways with Shady Records in 2008 and started his own record label called Black Market Entertainment. His most recent album was The Hangover in 2015.
