A Tribe Called Quest Get First No. 1 Album in Over 20 Years
Over 20 years after A Tribe Called Quest's Beats, Rhymes and Life album topped the Billboard Top 200 chart on Aug. 17, 1996, their new and final LP We got it from Here... Thank You 4 Your service has hit No. 1.
Billboard reports that Tip, Phife, Jarobi and Ali's new album sold 135,000 copies first week, 112,000 of which were traditional album sales. The full Top 200 chart, dated Dec. 3, will be posted to their website on Tuesday, Nov. 22.
“If you think about it, the history of the Electoral College is that it was brought about because the powers that be didn’t really feel they could trust their citizens to elect their leaders,” Tip told Trevor Noah. “They felt they were uneducated, didn’t really understand the true landscape of politics and where the country was going, and so on and so forth. Just to protect ourselves, we’ll have this Electoral College, and it sits in sort of a mystery shop.”
Today, Nov. 20, is Phife Dawg's birthday. He would have been 46. Over the weekend, a street named after him was unveiled in Queens—Linden Boulevard, to be exact.
