Twenty-two-year-old Broward County, Fla. native Lajan Slim has released his debut project Hood Olympian mixtapeand you can listen to it on Apple Music or stream it on SoundCloud below.

He's hot off his "Haitians" single, which has been bubbling since February of this year. By September, he'd signed a deal with Def Jam, and though fans had long-awaited his E.B.T. mixtape, they're getting Hood Olympian instead.

One thing that usually comes with rappers signing major label record deals is seeing a good amount of their free songs wiped from SoundCloud. That's exactly what seemed to happen with Lajan Slim, as excellent songs like "Lajan Anthem" and "Send a Bottle to the DJ" were erased from his official account (but not the internet).

It's a questionable strategy by labels; perhaps they have grander plans for these records, so they stash them away for a potentially larger roll-out later down the line. But the immediate effect is to narrow the amount of songs that an artist can provide to their hungry fan base, and therefore limit the number of records their fans can discover and enjoy.
