When Kanye West canceled the remainder of his set at the 2016 The Meadows Festival due to a "family emergency," fans knew something was very wrong. A few hours later, we've learned that the emergency Kanye spoke of was every bit as dire as it sounded. On Sunday (Oct. 2), his wife Kim Kardashian West was held at gunpoint and robbed while she was in France for Paris Fashion Week.

"Kim Kardashian West was held up at gunpoint inside her Paris hotel room this evening, by two armed masked men dressed as police officers. She is badly shaken but physically unharmed," said Kardashian West's spokesperson Ina Treciokas in a statement to Billboard.

According to the BBC, five men dressed in police uniforms and ski masks forced the Hotel Poutales concierge at gunpoint to lead them to Kim's hotel room at about 2:30 a.m.. There, they put a gun to her head, tied her up and locked her in the bathroom. They then stole a ring worth about $4.5 million as well as a box containing up to $6.7 million worth of jewelry. A French website reported that the thieves also took two mobile phones with them.

Kim had just returned to her room after attending a dinner with her sister Kourtney Kardashian in the Marais district when the robbery occurred. Following the scary incident, during which Kim reportedly "begged for her life" according to The Daily Mail, the Kardashian family was placed under protection at the George V palace.

Pascal Duvier, Kim's main personal bodyguard, was apparently not with her at the time of the robbery, as he was instead shadowing Kourtney Kardashian and Kendal Jenner, who were out on the town. Kim and Kanye's 3-year-old daughter North and 10-month-old son Saint were not believed to be with Kim at the time.

On Monday morning, Kim boarded a private plane with Duvier and her assistant and returned to New York. You can see footage of Kim, heavily flanked by security, arriving in NYC below.

The scare comes less than a week after a known attacker ran up to Kim and tried to kiss her behind in Paris. Duvier was there for that attack, pouncing on the creep within seconds.

The Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, tweeted a statement about the matter early Monday morning. "I condemn the attack Kim Kardashian suffered last night in her hotel,” wrote Hidalgo. “She has my support and will always be welcome here in Paris. I have full confidence that the police force, as part of their investigation, will quickly identify and apprehend the perpetrators of these acts.”
