J. Cole’s ‘2014 Forest Hills Drive’ Album Certified Two Times Platinum

J. Cole has quietly become one of the most successful rap artists of the last half decade, recently adding to his accomplishments with his latest album 2014 Forest Hills Drive going double platinum.

Cole's record label Roc Nation revealed the feat via Instagram. All three of Cole's albums, Cole World: The Sideline Story (2011), Born Sinner (2013) and 2014 Forest Hills Drive have reached platinum status, with the latter just eclipsing the 2x plateau. And of course, he did it with no features.

When FHD dropped in December 2014, the project had the largest first week sales for a rap album the whole year, moving a whopping 361,000 units. At the time, the LP broke a Spotify record previously held by One Direction after it was streamed over 15 million times in the first week. What made the amount of sales particularly notable is the fact that no one knew about the album until about a month before it came out and there was little promotion and no radio singles.

The project has since produced two platinum singles in "Wet Dreamz" and "No Role Modelz."

Cole embarked on two massive tours in promotion of the LP, which saw him on the road for the better part of the last two years. Earlier this month, he performed at The Meadows Music Festival in New York and announced it would be his last show for a while.

Hopefully, he is taking the time off to put together another platinum album.
